In this video I will show you how to install MetaTrader 4 build 600+ and open a free demo account without giving away any personal information! We will use this demo account in further tutorials to test our scripts and expert advisors. You can skip this tutorial if you already have a demo account.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure that in these tutorials you are practicing on a DEMO account. In the present course we will be creating scripts and other software which will carry out transactions on your account via the MetaTrader 4 trading platform. Therefore, you need to use a DEMO account for these educational purposes.

In this tutorial we will look at the Strategy Tester window. I will explain what each of the options is responsible for and how you would go about adjusting them.

The MT4 Strategy Tester has a lot of buttons and at first it can be quite overwhelming. However, I will guide you through the process of optimization. We will see how to use the visual mode and what the Spread parameter does.

This is a great fundamental video, which creates a basis for the rest of the Testing & Optimization for Beginners course going forward.

Investopedia defines backtesting as “The process of testing a trading strategy on prior time periods. Instead of applying a strategy for the time period forward, which could take years, a trader can do a simulation of his or her trading strategy on relevant past data in order to gauge the its effectiveness”

In today’s tutorial we will expand on this definition. We will explore the different types of backtesting and I will show you why backtests are so valuable, how they can save you time and make your add certainty to your Forex algo-trading.
